Weather chart activity
Materials Needed: Pre-made Weather Chart with boxes, Pens, Pencils, Crayons, Markers, Tissues, Glue, Cotton Balls, Scissors, etc.
Teacher notes:
For this activity you should construct uniform weather charts for each student, like the one above (it is recommended that you make them weekly so they have lots of space to draw out the weather). Each day the students come into class you should give them their weather charts. Discuss the weather outside with the class, ask questions as a group and discuss. After discussion give allow each student 5-10 minutes to draw the weather in the correct box on their weather charts. They can be as creative as they want, once done take 2-3 minutes to discuss a specific students chart. Repeat this daily. Use the higher order thinking questions below to guide your before and after discussions.
HIgher order thinking questions:
1. Explain how the images in your weather chart describe the weather today. (I drew the sun with a beach ball because it is sunny and hot out today and sometimes when its like that we go to the beach)!
2. Look outside, what is the weather like, what season are we in? (Today it is sunny and warm out and flowers are coming out, it is springtime).
3. How many types of art tools did you use to show the weather today? (Three, I used cotton balls, glue, and colored pencils).
4. Is it day or night right now? How do you know? (It is daytime because the sun is out and its not dark).
5. Will the weather be the same tomorrow? Explain your answer. (It might be different, it could rain)!
6. If it were raining out would you still be wearing the same thing you are right now? Why/why not? (I would have a rain jacket on with rain boots on if it was raining really hard because they would keep me from getting wet).
